Functions of marine B/L

when the goods are transported by vessel, the marine or ocean B/L is one of the most important shipping documents .A bill of lading functions as a receipt of goods by the carrier evidencing receipt of the goods from the consignor, a contract of carriage between the shipper and the carrier containing the conditions on which transport is made, and a document of title to the goods in the sense that the lawful holder/ owner of the B/L is the lawful owner of the goods and the carrier will only release the goods at the stipulated port of destination against the presentation of the original B/L.
